JSON Question

How to access locale json files with grunt http server (grunt-contrib-connect)

I am trying access resolve a locale json file with AngularJS and

$resource
.

This is my call to load the file:

angular.module('moneyJinnApp').service('TranslationService', function($resource) {
this.getTranslation = function($scope, language) {
var languageFilePath = '/js/i18n/lang_' + language + '.json';
$resource(languageFilePath).get(function (data) {
$scope.translation = data;
});
};
});

Now I have the problem, that the build in grunt webserver does not allow me the access the file. If I try I get the error

Cannot GET /i18n/lang_en.json

Here is my Guntfile.js:

// Generated on 2015-01-21 using generator-angular 0.9.2
'use strict';

// # Globbing
// for performance reasons we're only matching one level down:
// 'test/spec/{,*/}*.js'
// use this if you want to recursively match all subfolders:
// 'test/spec/**/*.js'

The .json files are in the path /app/i18n/*.json

Can somebody help me with this?

Answer

This is because the webserver that Grunt is loading does not serve sed files. I would do something like this:

In your grunt config:

 livereload: {
        options: {
          open: true,
          middleware: function (connect) {
            return [
              connect.static('data'), // <---- add this line
              connect.static('.tmp'),
              connect().use(
                '/bower_components',
                connect.static('./bower_components')
              ),
              connect.static(appConfig.app)
            ];
          }
        }
      },

Then put your data in the data folder outside your app directory and it will get served on load of the app.

Then test it out by surfing to: localhost:<port>/data/<file>.json

After that change your url to:

    var languageFilePath = 'data/i18n/lang_' + language + '.json';
