Android Question

Android Toast.makeText(this, ....) not working for AppCompatActivity

Using Android Studio, I'm trying to call

Toast.makeText()
method inside a class that extends AppCompatActivity by passing
this
as the first argument (which should be a Context) as shown below:

Toast.makeText(this, messageResId, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();


This is giving me the following error:

Cannot resolve method makeText(com.example.myname.geoquiz.QuizActivity, int, int)


It seems like it isn't recognizing my QuizActivity as a Context, but I don't understand why considering QuizActivity extends AppCompatActivity, which is a Context. Below is my code (I omitted all of the other methods I have).

I've tried looking through places like StackOverflow for this issue, but the best recommendation I've seen is to replace
this
with
getApplicationContext()
but that method is not recognized when I tried using it. Any ideas?

I've also tried Clean Project, Rebuild Project, and Invalid Cache/Restart just to make sure it wasn't something buggy with Android Studio that could be easily fixed.

Answer

Create Another Activity QuizActivity1 and copy the codes of body of QuizActivity and import classes it required, delete QuizActivity and refactor QuizActivity1 to QuizActivity, it may fix the problem. :)
